Kaikoura

North of Christchurch by some 182 kms – roughly 3 hours driving at a leisurely pace – Kaikoura was once a sleepy fishing village with hardly a coffee shop in sight until a very clever person decided that people would love to take a boat ride several miles off shore to see the sperm whales as they swam along the coast. Then someone else decided that those same people would probably also like to go swimming with Dolphins ….. so what you will find now is a town bustling with tourists all enjoying a vibrant little spot with great cafes, restaurants and of course the main attraction Whale Watching.
