Took a walk around the Barnett Park loop track this morning, going right up to the base of the waterfall for the first time. Lot’s of climbing bolts on the rock walls, but way beyond my ability to even get off the ground!!! Gravity is a cruel taskmaster!!!
There was a report of a Shining Cuckoo (Pīpīwharauroa) hanging around the cave area, so I was keen to see if I could find it and possibly get a photograph. I was playing the Cuckoo call, as they sometimes come to check out the neighbourhood competition. Whilst the Cuckoo was a no show, what was interesting was that a Grey Warbler showed up and just stayed on a branch for ages (very uncharacteristic for a Warbler – they normally don’t sit still) whilst the call played on. Here’s a few of the photos I took.
Please message me if you want a print.
